King Island Tourism Tasmania

King Island is anchored in the middle of the Bass Strait between Victoria and Tasmania’s North West coast. Surrounded by some of Australia’s most beautiful beaches, King Island imports the world’s best surfers and exports produce sought by the world’s top chefs. Succulent beef, rich gourmet cheese and crayfish plucked from the Island’s crystal clear waters are but three of the delicacies you can enjoy on your visit. While the prospect of unwinding in this quiet, peaceful paradise may be what attracts our visitors it is the people they meet while here who encourage their return. King Islanders are unbelievably friendly and welcoming while also blunt and funny. If you want prissy go elsewhere. If you want pristine come to King Island.

King Island is located approximately 80 km northwest of Tasmania in Australia and about 90 km southeast of Cape Otway on the Victorian coast of Australia. King Island, with a population between 1500 and 2000, is one of Australia’s undiscovered island retreats. Wildly rugged, windswept and attractive it boasts over 145 km of untouched coastline, an estimated 57 offshore wrecks and a wide and unusual variety of seabirds and wildlife. This is not a tiny island, it is some 64 km long and 26 km wide.

Festival of King Island

The Festival of King Island takes place from Friday night the 29th of January at the King Island Club and then at the picturesque Currie Harbour on Saturday 30th and Sunday the 31st of January 2016. Bootleg Rascal and Boo Seeka will be making the festival part of the Sureshaker tour after very successful European tours for both bands. Johnny Rollins (runner up of The Voice 2014) will be performing acoustic and Hein Cooper is also returning from his European Tour. Claire Anne Taylor will stun with her powerful vocals which have been likened to Janice Joplin. The Spindrift Saga will be giving us a dose of the blues and the soft rock band New Black Shades will have you jumping up on the dance floor. The zany ZAP  will be making their debut at the festival – and the island has not seen anything like them before. Triple j favourites Boo Seeka are also making their first appearance (although lead singer Gumby is an old hand at FOKI having played twice with Benjalu) and Lyall Moloney is returning after winning the hearts (and philosophical debates) at last year’s festival. We are thrilled to have Nick Saxon back for his 2nd solo appearance. The local talent includes the excellent "Local band", 40° South and Clare Woodburn.

There will also be a bevvy of local talent, including the excellent "Local band", Trez, Tim Woodburn's band, Kelly Lancaster, Liam Barnes, Clare Woodburn, the music makers and Dirty with the Country.

Long Table Festival

A weekend of 'Paddock to Plate' experiences led by local and visiting chefs. The first Festival was held in 2009 with a small group of family and friends. We gathered the foods, cooked together and then shared a long lazy lunch on Sunday. Our Festival offers activities not usually available to tourists, and is a rare opportunity to get a "behind the scenes" look at life on King Island.  We hope you will join us and enjoy the wonderful friendship, hospitality and food King Island has to offer.
