A 4WD is a must on King Island if you want to find the best surf. Arriving at King Island airport we will provide you with a 4WD(s) vehicle to pickup and drive straight to the surf you spotted 10 minutes earlier by the plane.

Only a couple surf breaks can be accessed off the main roads. However, to get to King Island’s many surfing spots you will require some help to find them in the form of a 4WD, a dodgy surf map and a good sense of adventure - Fortunately we have kindly provided two of these for you.

Many of the surf spots are accessed only by rugged 4WD tracks so we provide you with a fully kitted-out 4WD that is more than capable of getting over the next sand dune to find that perfect wave.

NOTE: Don’t get caught out by “hiring a 4WD” thinking you can go off-road. Hire cars (4WDs) are not allowed off-road due to their insurance coverage.

Although King Island is relatively smallish in size being 65 km long and 25 km wide, without a good map and some knowledge of the island, surf breaks and weather conditions you can spend a lot of time driving searching for waves.

We want to make sure you maximise your surfing time, especially if you are only going for the 1 or 2 day trip. Hence we make it as easy as possible for you with a quick 10 minute debrief before you depart on the weather conditions, and where the to find the best surf during your trip, we also supply you with a map to navigate the roads and many 4WD tracks to access the surf.
